Change of perspective: the advantages of a new perspective
Not everyone makes sense of a change of perspective right from the start. A common question then reads: Why should I try to see through the eyes of others? After all, you want to get an idea for yourself, find an opinion and rely on what you think, feel and experience. On the one hand understandable and positive, but at the same time also the cause of the problem.
Your subjective perception is by no means always right, even if it feels like that to you. One advantage of changing perspective is therefore that you get a more objective picture. Sometimes you are just stuck in your views and firmly convinced of something that you no longer question. Only when you manage to look at it more neutrally and from the outside can you see that you may have been wrong all along.
But the exact opposite can also be a good reason for a change of perspective. With a new perspective, you don't necessarily have to correct yourself and change your mind. You can too feel confirmed in your views or even find other arguments to support your point of view.
Another big advantage of a change of perspective is that Problem solving opportunity. Sometimes when you have a big challenge or a problem that you just don't see a solution to, you're too close. You don't see the proverbial forest for the trees, although with a greater distance and the view from outside there doesn't seem to be any real obstacle.
With the new perspective you can see what you have not yet thought of yourself and instead of struggling with a problem, your nose is struck by how easy it can be.
Find out more about yourself with a change of perspective
You know yourself best, know your strengths but also possible weak points and understand what makes you tick and what kind of personality you are. Only you know all your thoughts and feelings - how can you learn something about yourself by changing your perspective? The key point is the difference between Self-image and perception of others.
From your point of view, you probably behave correctly at all times, appear personable, competent, helpful ... But do your colleagues and other people think that too? The own External impact is often misjudged and so you may not even know that some of your behaviors are negative to those around you.
In order to become aware of your own external impact, however, you have to be ready to self-critically reflect on one's own behavior and also be able to admit your own mistakes and change something about them in the future.
This is how it works with the change of perspective
A change of perspective usually takes a little practice and so you will probably not immediately succeed in putting yourself in someone else's shoes to actually look at things from his point of view and understand what he is thinking and how he is assessed the situation.
Fortunately, you can learn it though and there is different methods and tipswith which a change of perspective can be achieved.
Stay open and unbiased
A change of perspective can only succeed if you remain mentally flexible and do not stiffen up to 120 percent on your views. Allow others to have a different opinion without categorically rejecting it or making it bad. The more openly you look at another person's perspective, the better you can get involved and really understand it.
Ask for feedback
One of the best and easiest ways to change perspective is to specifically ask about other people's perspective. For example, approach your colleagues and specifically ask for feedback and other views. What do they think about a certain situation or an upcoming problem? How is this perspective different from yours? With this information it will be much easier for you to understand the perspective, because you no longer have to guess what others are thinking, but already know for sure.
Consciously do things differently
For a change of perspective, it is helpful if you do not do everything the way you always do. Typical behavior and your old habits mean that your view of things remains the same. Break such patterns and consciously do something different. Changed behavior also stimulates changed mindsets and you can take a fresh look at something.
Take on another person's position
It takes a little imagination and empathy, but you can really change your perspective when you can actually put yourself in someone else's shoes. You can ask yourself specific questions that can help. What does my colleague think of me in this situation? How would I act if I were Person X? How could someone else react in my place?
