What are the best songs about bananas
Those were the summer hits of 2020
A mild breeze by the sea, lying happily on the beach and counting grains of sand, cocktails under palm trees and cuddling dolphins during the diving course: We love summer - and that's its soundtrack!
Important:You can find the summer hits 2021 here! After the last update on September 11, 2020, this post is now closed. Our associated Spotify playlist now comprises an impressive 162 tracks with a running time of almost 9 hours - perfect for the next open-air party!
Poppy, shallow and sometimes close to bodily harm: the title "summer hit" is not only associated with good things. Several years of Assi tourism on Malle rise before the mind's eye, wild booze in Italy, long nights in disgusting hotel rooms. The main thing is that the soundtrack is as simple as possible and can be shouted out loud.
According to the streaming figures determined by GfK Entertainment, the trend of recent years has taken a different path: in 2019 the wonderfully relaxed "Senorita"by Shawn Mendes (and the Cuban singer Camila Cabello) in first place, 2018 belonged to the" House of Money "anthem"Bella Ciao"by El Profesor, 2017 Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee conquered our auricles with"Despacito".
In 2020 the beginning of summer fell on Saturday, June 20th, the official line will be drawn on September 22nd.

Corona vs. summer
The Corona crisis turned the summer of 2020 completely on its head: The "New Normal" not only dominated people's going out behavior, but also many other areas. This year really "everything was different", because the nasty coronavirus had (and still has!) A say when it comes to vacation planning.
In short: face masks and balconies were preferred to long-distance travel. Festivals? (Almost) all of them have been canceled! Outdoor pools? The "deadly Petri dishes of death" were sometimes only allowed to be entered with online registration - and complained about extreme losses. BBQ parties? Rather uncool with a face mask and disinfectant. Clubbing late into the night? Only virtually at home.
Despite all attempts like Drive-in theaters, "Pop-up amusement parks"and some open-air concepts like the"Home summer in Düsseldorf"This summer became very lonely for many people in the end.

Jawsh 685, Jason Derulo - Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat)
It's official, at least according to GfK Entertainment, the boys and girls behind the German charts: "Savage Love" is the official summer hit 2020!
The song entered the official German single charts in mid-June, climbed to second place and has everything that makes a summer hit: a catchy melody, a simple text, a danceable rhythm and it spreads a good mood and holiday mood.
In addition, the track has gained significantly in popularity through social media. Jason Derulo became aware of the New Zealand newcomer Jawsh 685 through a dance challenge at TikTok. With him, he finally planned the new edition of the track, which was published in 2019, and thus made it a success.
In the meantime, over 284,000 TikTok videos have been created in Germany, Austria and Switzerland alone - all of them dance to "Savage Love". Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo succeed Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, who made the summer hit of 2019 with "Senorita". Even in the neighboring countries of Austria and Switzerland, there is no way around "Savage Love": Here the song even tops the charts.

Surf Mesa, Emilee - ily (i love you baby)
On March 27, Surf Mesa and Emilee got off to a rather moderate start: With an entry at number 70 in the German charts, the champus was closed for the time being. Only a few weeks later the track steadily approached the top 10: First "ily" took 12th and 11th place, then it finally followed 7th place.
A look at Spotify is even more promising: There the track was trending both worldwide (1st place!) And in Germany. "Ily" recorded over 300 million hits at the beginning of August.
In any case, we could hardly imagine a more beautiful summer hit than this chilled waterfall of electronic infatuations, shaken to perfection by Emilee's wistful interpretation of the original "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" from 1967, then by Frankie Valli and the "Four Seasons" released. Incidentally, the song was written by Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio - the former is also behind such evergreens as "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "Lady Marmelade".

Taylor Swift - August
The new album by Taylor Swift, which was released on July 30, 2020, comprises an impressive 16 tracks. Many other artists would be terribly happy about such number of hits: Spotify alone "Cardigan" managed 48 million hits only a few days later, 10 more tracks from the album all easily surpassed the 20 million.
For our summer track we didn't choose the popular "Cardigan": Instead, we put the appropriately named track in the playlist with "August".

Apache 207 - Fame
You can stand by rapper "Apache 207" as you like - there is hardly a way past him in 2020, at least if you take a look at the numbers: Over 16 million views for the YouTube video of "Fame" and 40 million Streams on Spotify speak for themselves for a track that was released in early May. One can also speak of a "summer hit".
Apart from that, there would be the new album "Staircase", from which four tracks (!) Made it into the top 20 single charts after its release at the end of July: "Unterwegs" is now officially the new number 1 in Germany. Respect!

Black Eyed Peas, Maluma - FEEL THE BEAT
After only three days of running, the YouTube video for "FEEL THE BEAT" has already reached 16 million views - and the associated new album by the "Peas" is likely to blow a few more hot tracks onto the radio in the coming weeks and months. The list of features on "Translation" is large and extremely prominent: J. Balvin, Shakira, Nicky Jam, Tyga, French Montana - that should keep us busy for a long time!

SAINt JHN - Roses (Imanbek Remix)
The track itself dates from 2019, but we can say with a clear conscience: In 2020 no one will be able to ignore SAINt JHN and his "Roses". Whether on the radio or in the club, whether at home on Spotify or in the gym, the basses make the walls shake everywhere.
"Roses" can look forward to more than 630 million streams on Spotify, and the music video published on YouTube at the beginning of March 2020 sets another milestone with 53 million views. Yup, definitely a summer hit.

Regard - Ride it
Released in October 2019, it also brings "Ride it" 2020 to its peak: By now the hot electro track with the heavily distorted 80s vibe voice in some of the ear canals should have grooved warm enough to keep you warm even in the hottest time of the Year to accompany to the beach.
There are also enough remixes: from the Parookaville-compatible party version by Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, to Jonas Blue and the pleasantly decelerated Franky Wah version - there is something for every taste.
By the way: At the time of these lines (end of June) "Ride it" has already booked 97 million views on YouTube, the associated Spotify Steam was viewed 518 million times.

Powfu, Beabadoobee - death bed (coffee for your head)
Who should have heard the hookline of "death bed": Right! The song by the British-Filipino indie pop darling Beabadoobee caused a lot of "Oh, hey, that's cool!"
Two years later, producer Otterpop and lo-fi hip-hopper Powfu have dared to try the track - and with their new lyrics created something that hit TikTok like a bomb, especially in the video quickie scene.
>>> Powfu, Beabadoobee with "death bed" on YouTube <<<
Justin Bieber - Yummy
The 350 million views for the music video on YouTube will soon be cracked, but Justin Bieber's "Yummy" is full throttle on all other fronts as well. Success is only denied in the charts: In the USA, it started quite promisingly at number 2, but it went downhill a little later. In the German charts, Yummy does even worse: From position 15 on January 10th it went downhill until the track was completely out of the way in mid-March.
We still agree: A "flirty" summer without shallow Bieber lyrics is not a real summer. So into the playlist!

The Weeknd - Blinding Lights
Hardly any other track has accompanied it and has been so reliably on the radio since the beginning of the year as the famous 80s synth track "Blinding Lights" by The Weeknd: From December 6, 2019 it went straight to number 11 in the German charts. On January 1st they got 1st place for the first time. And since it's so beautiful up there, "Blinding Lights" stayed there to this day - alternating between 1st and 2nd place. Crazy!
The associated audio video on YouTube has well over 150 million views, the music video that was published later already has over 100 million views.
And we cannot emphasize enough how nice this change from the rather Spanish music image of the last few years is: The 80s rock! Even today! We also give you an absolute summer nights dance guarantee on top of that - keep it up!

Tones and I - Dance Monkey
37 weeks at the top of the charts are "Tones and I" with their super hit "Dance Monkey" - those who don’t have a catchy tune have long since stuck their heads in the sand.
Although the trend should slowly but surely be "through" and the charts also show a slight decline: The "Dance Monkey" will definitely beckon you from one or the other balcony palm and throw bananas on the street, even in summer. Strong part!
>>> Tones and I with "Dance Monkey" on YouTube <<<
Black Eyed Peas, J Balvin - RITMO
It's hard to believe, but it actually happened: Bad Boys 3, aka "Bad Boys for Life"! The third part is finally here, a proud 17 years after the second part. Who shouldn't have seen it yet: Make up for it, ideally all in one the numerous drive-in cinemaswhich have been growing out of the ground everywhere in the last few weeks.
What does that have to do with our summer hits? Well, with "Bad Boys 3" one of the potential summer hits 2020 also hit the charts with flaming tires: "RITMO" borrows (once again) the right sample from the Eurodance hit "The Rhythm of the Night" from Corona from 1993 - and yes, they really were called that. One of the "real" Corona-Tracks 2020, so to speak.
In the charts, RITMO is doing rather badly, on January 3rd it was already at the top with position 24. The associated YouTube video has more than 620 million views that are worth seeing.

Jonas Blue, MAX - Naked
"You only say you love me when we're naked" - well, something! That sounds like a serious relationship crisis. Fortunately, the track itself is rather playful - and saddles the necessary summer groove without any problems. The English music producer Jonas Blue is already looking forward to almost 5 million views of the associated video on YouTube - by the way, he became famous for his tropical house version of the classic "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman (listen here!).

Dua Lipa - Don't Start Now
Solid midfield for the pleasantly groovy track "Don't Start Now" by Dua Lipa, who brings together one heavyweight after the next on her new album "Future Nostalgia". "Physical" and "Break my Heart" are no longer unknown when it comes to high chart positions.
In terms of the groove factor and suitability for long summer nights, we decided on "Don't Start Now".

More summer hit tips from the editors
The Killers - My Own Soul's Warning
Due to Corona, the new album of the "Killers" has been postponed indefinitely, but with "My Own Soul's Warning" there is now the third single and the matching opener for "Imploding the Mirage". The track comes with a good portion of "Bruce Springsteen" spirit and is (in our humble opinion) an excellent musical accompaniment for the next trip into the sunset.
>>> The Killers with "My Own Soul's Warning" on YouTube <<<
Pierce Brothers - Kanko
Simple songs with a simple statement: The Pierce Brothers from Melbourne come from the country-rock-folk corner and have cobbled together one of the most beautiful songs of the year with "Kanko". Definitely worth listening to - and a great access to any summer playlist.

The Dreggs - Call Me Home
Australian bands, the second: "The Dreggs" also deliver relaxed country feelings with "Call Me Home", sweetly refined with catchy vocals, and yet smug enough to have the beer "plopped" twice as nicely at every garden party. We can't get enough of the track and just grab our "insider tip stamp" out of the drawer.
>>> The Dreggs - Call Me Home on YouTube <<<
Clueso - dancing
To guess on a summer hit from Clueso is certainly not too far-fetched: As one of the best songwriters in Germany, the now 40-year-old blond has held us in his lyrical embrace since the beginning of 2000, from "You and I" to "If you love" - and now stop "dancing".
By the way, Clueso recorded the new track in a corona-style way in the pantry at home - and the awesome synth sounds and whistling tones actually come from jingling to canned food. "Never again as it was, take care, te quiero!"
Who wants to listen:

Duke Dumont - Ocean Drive
On his new record "Duality" (2020), the British DJ Duke Dumont has gathered some of his greatest hits of the last few years - and of these, "Ocean Drive" fits best into the summer. In any case, we can't get enough of the good piece, which has accumulated more than 530 million views on YouTube since its release.
