One of the players Dele will work with at EXCEL is Jaden "Wolfiez’ Ashman, the UK's best fornite player.

Wolfiez holds the record as the youngest player to ever win $ 1 million in a single esports tournament after finishing runner-up in the 2019 Fortnite World Cup at the age of just 16. Ashman was signed to EXCEL in May 2020 as the first foray into Fortnite esports.

The 24-year-old joins a growing list of current and retired footballers entering the world of sport. David Beckham, Gareth Bale, Mesut Ozil, Sergio Aguero and others are involved in their own esports teams.

Talk to our Reach podcast Level up! On the Esports and Gaming Show, in which the full episode will soon go online with special guest Dele, the Spurs superstar told Mirror Football how his love for gaming began and why he decided to join EXCEL ESPORTS as a global ambassador.

But for Dele, his first memory of playing wasn't on a virtual soccer field, but on a virtual racetrack.

"It started with Mario Kart. I think as far as I can remember it was either a GameCube or a Nintendo, probably the first console I played it on," said Dele.

“When I was younger trying to get my fastest lap, that's where it all started. Over time and with the appearance of new consoles, I obviously fell in love with them more.

“It's something I've been passionate about since I was young, besides soccer, of course soccer was the first, but in my free time when I wasn't training it was something I loved to do.

Over time, Dele's passion for gaming has evolved too. The England international reveals his current favorite game title.

“Right now it was Call of Duty, obviously they just started the new one (Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War) so I played that a bit.

"Before it was Fortnite and NBA 2K, but right now it was definitely more Call of Duty."

On April 21, 2018, Dele showed his love for playing on the biggest stage and performed the now legendary Floss Dance Dance as a goal celebration after beating in the FA Cup semi-finals Manchester United had opened the scoring.

The floss dance was featured in the popular video game Fortnite Battle Royale, released in 2017, as a dance emote that can be performed by the characters in the game. As of May 2020, 350 million players had played Fortnite with the popularity of the floss dance taking the globe due to the game's great success.

Dele revealed how his finish celebration came about and how he was surprised by the great response to it.

“I had a lot of kids after I flossed!

“I couldn't believe the reaction, no matter when mascots or children were on the training ground or whether I was out and about
