Review note on Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, July 17, 2000

Klaus Hildebrand devotes an in-depth review to the second half of the fifth title of the twelve-volume series "The Third Reich and the Second World War". He praises the three authors for their "factual loyalty and accuracy" and underlines the wealth of information and the loyalty to detail, but sees the danger that the reader could lose track of things. The reviewer therefore hopes for a final volume that will take up all the threads and tie them together. Hildebrand emphasizes that the three contributions by Hans Umbreit (German rule in the occupied territories 1942-1944), Rolf-Dieter Müller (Albert Speer and the armaments policy in total war) and Bernhard R. Kroener (human management) "can hardly be surpassed "Present research results and especially praise Bernhard R. Kroener's study of the" ability to wage war "of the German Reich as a" remarkable research achievement ". However, he would like the following volumes to appear a little more quickly.
