Which is better iPhone or Samsung 1

Apple iPhone or Samsung? Comparison of the two smartphone giants

A question that is almost as old as the smartphones themselves is Apple or Samsung? The camps have always been divided into Apple followers or Android fans, above all of course Samsung. But is it purely a matter of taste, or is there also a clear winner in terms of technical equipment in the battle between Samsung and Apple?

We at Purdroid have investigated this question. As always, our research was not guided by opinions, but by facts. After hundreds of reviews of devices from both competitors, we were able to get a meaningful picture of the head-to-head race between Apple and Samsung.

We have taken a closer look at the pricing policy of the two mega-corporations for you and tell you which models are particularly stable in value. We also wanted to know the advantages and disadvantages of the respective operating systems. In this context, we also explain to you how security gaps arise.

Could we even manage to resolve the conflict in people's minds when buying a smartphone? After all, there is a little bit of Samsung in every Apple device. How do we get that? You can find out more below.

Pricing policy

It is difficult to compare the pricing policies of the two manufacturers. When it comes to buying a cheap smartphone, Samsung is clearly one step ahead. But this is mainly due to the fact that several models are offered in almost every price segment.

With the exception of the SE models, the American technology giant Apple is limited to the high-priced high-end sector. As already mentioned in the big iPhone 12 comparison, the Cupertino-based iPhone manufacturer attaches great importance to the fact that its customers identify with the brand.

Many apple stickers on the tailgates of countless cars on the streets show that this strategy is bearing fruit. Or have you ever seen the Samsung lettering on a trunk? With this brand identity, Apple succeeds in turning the price screw up again.

In the further course of this article you will find out whether Apple has technical know-how in addition to marketing and whether the prices of the hardware are reasonable.

The fast pace of the mobile communications market makes it difficult to speak of a stable value. While the latest models are just being presented, the manufacturers are already working on successor models. Samsung in particular is known for literally flooding the market with its new smartphones.

If you take a look at our guide to the mobile phone innovations 2021, you will understand what we mean by that. Here Apple can again make use of the clever strategy of brand identification.

Since the latest iPhones are very expensive, not everyone can afford them. Nevertheless, many people feel the desire for a status symbol in the form of a smartphone with an apple on it.

The demand for iPhones on the second hand or refurbished market is particularly high and even older iPhones are still fetching considerable prices. Apple also offers the advantage that older models are also supplied with the latest version of the operating system for a long time.

Samsung, on the other hand, usually only supplies its top models with the latest Android for years.

Intermediate standings: Apple 1 - 0 Samsung.

Model selection

The question of who has more models to choose from is quickly answered. Samsung is clearly ahead here.

A look at our guide to the new mobile phones 2021 reveals that Samsung has announced 7 smartphones from different model series this year alone.

In contrast, Apple is just about to have an iPhone 13, probably in four versions, in the starting blocks. A clear point for Samsung.

operating system

As mentioned briefly before, Apple reliably supplies its customers with regular updates of their iOS operating system. This also over an astonishingly long period of time. With the current iOS 14, all iPhones are supplied back to the iPhone 6S, which was released in 2015.

Samsung, on the other hand, only supplies its high-end models with the latest operating software for a period of 2 to 3 years. An upgrade to the current Android 11 is only available for devices from the last two years.

In addition to long updates, Apple's own iOS operating system offers another advantage over the Google-based Android operating system, which Samsung has to share with countless other providers.

Apple programs its device-driving software exactly to the hardware components of its smartphones and thus ensures an almost perfect harmony between hardware and software.

Samsung also has an optimized Android version that has been adapted to Samsung's models, but the operating system is not programmed for the specific device, but in essence a normal Android. This causes relatively frequent bugs and system hang-ups and sometimes noticeably affects the performance of Samsung devices.

Especially in the lower price segment, customers have to struggle with sometimes considerable software problems that have to be resolved by downloading a revised version.

The editors of Wertgarantie.de are by and large our opinion in their iOS vs. Android comparison and are in favor of a generous draw.

We see Apple's iOS a good bit further ahead than Samsung's Android version. Thus, another point in the duel Apple vs. Samsung goes to the manufacturer with the apple logo.

Intermediate result: Apple 2 - 1 Samsung

technology

It is no longer a big secret that Apple buys most of the OLED panels in its current iPhones from its direct competitor Samsung.

However, we ask ourselves why a screen with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz is built into the current Samsung flagship Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, while Apple relies on the almost outdated 60 Hz in its 12 series iPhones?

In terms of pure camera performance, Samsung has a clear advantage over Apple's top smartphone iPhone 12 Pro in the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G with a main camera with 64 megapixels and two additional lenses with 12 megapixels each.

Here all 3 cameras have a resolution of only 12 megapixels. Thanks to excellent image optimization, the iPhone 12 photos are also outstanding and both smartphones are therefore at the forefront of our guide to the best cell phone cameras.

But now to the heart of every smartphone, the processor. There is currently no stronger smartphone chip than the brand new Apple A14 Bionic Chip, which was used for the first time in the current iPhone 12 models. With this 6 core SoC, Apple makes all competitors look old.

However, it would be bold to claim that the computing units of the top Samsung models are slow. Even the renowned American technology homepage zdnet.com, as an avowed Apple lover, has to admit in this article that Samsung can impress with its own 8 core processors. However, the fact is that Apple currently has the fastest chip.

Given the better camera performance and the much better screens, the point in this round goes to South Korea.

design

Taste is discussable. Since we strive to present you with factual articles, we do not allow ourselves to be tempted to incorporate personal views into our work. Nevertheless, we can judge the workmanship of the individual models of both manufacturers on the basis of facts.

From the upper middle class, you can expect from Samsung that a high-quality material mix without annoying edges is combined into a high-quality device with elegant curves. Cheaper models from the South Korean manufacturer sometimes feel as cheap as their price.

With the exception of the iPhone SE (2020), Apple devices are in the premium price sector. The manufacturer owes it to customers who are willing to pay only to offer superbly manufactured devices made from high-quality raw materials. The iPhone 6, which tended to bend, showed that Apple has not always succeeded in this.

The manufacturer reacted quickly, but the scandal was born and lingered on for a long time. Since then, Apple has been using particularly robust frames that connect the front and back of the device.

In view of the fact that we don't want to decide which design to like and that we cannot compare Samsung's affordable models with the premium iPhones, one point goes to both participants in the comparison iPhone vs. Samsung.

Intermediate result: Apple 3 - 3 Samsung

Compatibility and ecosystem

If you are faced with the decision of Apple or Samsung, there is usually a point that is perceived as particularly negative. Apple's iPhones are not as compatible with third-party hardware and software as Samsung's models. However, Apple's devices interact excellently with each other. Samsung cannot keep up with this in any way.

You can be benevolent towards Apple and give the manufacturer the goodwill that he endeavors to offer his customers the optimal user experience in the form of specially designed accessories.

But you can also see it as a malicious move to install a Lightning connector, which is only reserved for Apple devices. This strategy continues with the software.

While it is irrelevant thanks to Android systems, for example, which music streaming provider you install on your Samsung device, Apple users only have an Apple Music account to allow the voice-controlled device assistant to optimally interact with the music playback.

Although other providers such as Deezer and Spotify can also be operated on an iPhone, the user can still expect compromises in terms of convenience. The Google-based voice assistant from Samsung, on the other hand, reliably navigates through the music offerings on all streaming platforms.

Samsung is also taking a more relaxed approach to third-party software and allows all kinds of content to be downloaded from the Google Playstore to the smartphone. In the next section we will explain that this is not always an advantage.

Before that, however, it is up to the awarding of points. Since the restrictive attitude of Apple severely restricts the user and the range of accessories for Samsung devices by various third-party providers is many times larger, the point in this round goes to Seoul.

Intermediate result: Apple 3 - 4 Samsung

security

In addition to megapixel numbers, frame rates and battery capacity, many customers often forget the important aspect of security. In times of cyber crime, one should deal with how much important data can be found on the mobile phone.

Data thieves are less interested in private photos and chat histories than passwords and account details. In addition to criminals, others are also interested in your private life and secretly read along with you. Megacorporations like Amazon and Google are keenly interested in what interests you have and what pages you visit on the Internet.

It's just stupid if your mobile phone runs on an operating system that was developed by one of the two manufacturers mentioned. Although Apple and Samsung are equally committed to protecting your most important data, the company philosophies seem to differ when it comes to privacy.

Apple tries every possible means to protect you from having to give out your personal data. This is a big plus for the Californian company.

It is both a curse and a blessing that Apple does not classify many applications in the App Store as safe and that some apps will never find their way onto an iPhone. Criminals use dubious apps in particular to gain access to smartphones.

Although Google also checks the content of the Playstore for security gaps, it often happens that so-called malware reaches Android smartphones via applications from the Playstore.

Our American colleagues from ZDnet.com come to the same conclusion as we do when it comes to security and have their opinion at https://www.zdnet.com/article/apple-vs-samsung-who-makes-a-better-smartphone/ published the topic.

With certainty we conclude the awarding of points in the comparison between Samsung and iPhone. The last point goes to Apple in sunny California.

Final score: Apple 4 - 4 Samsung

So we come to a tie and unfortunately we cannot give you a clear result when it comes to the question of iPhone or Samsung 😉
