Creation Engine

Creation Engine logo

The Creation Engine is a game engine developed by Bethesda Softworks[1]that for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim[2], Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 is used.

background

The Creation Engine is based on the Gamebryo game engine and was designed to support The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim brought on the market. It uses much of the programming framework and generally creates the same atmosphere, but has many improvements over the old engine.

  • The range of vision is wider for a more epic, cosmopolitan feel.
  • "Remote" objects, e.g. B. Cities on the horizon, have several levels of detail and allow a more intense gaming experience without requiring too much power.
  • The shadows have been greatly improved so that almost any object can cast shadows in real time, and better lighting systems make the world appear more alive.
  • Animations use better blending so that more complex actions can be translated into the model; H. several actions are displayed at the same time and one animation does not overwrite the other.
  • This in Oblivion introduced Radiant AI system[3] has been expanded to allow NPCs more diverse and believable everyday activities while still being able to participate in quests and larger events.
  • The Radiant Story System[3] was with Skyrim Introduced to allow a wider range of dynamic quest elements and the creation of on-the-fly quests, such as: For example, an innkeeper who may notify the player that an ogre needs to be hunted is created by the engine instead of being created in advance by the quest team.
  • The user interface was switched from the old XML frontends and hard-coded backends to a Shockwave Flash system, which was more complex to edit, but allowed much greater flexibility for modders and had numerous graphic effects that were not previously available.
  • The quest journal has been expanded to allow multiple quests or none at all to be tracked at the same time. It includes a "Misc" section for simple quests that weren't tracked in previous games. This allowed for better tracking of side tasks without unnecessarily cluttering the diary.
  • The combat system has been significantly updated in order to be able to use shields, weapons or spells with each hand independently of the other. This allows for a more diverse range of character building and more complex combat tactics.
  • A new bonus system has been added that gives a number of bonuses to each skill to further diversify character building. The benefits range from simple damage per rank to allowing special attacks with certain weapons to selling stolen items to any vendor.
  • The crafting system has been expanded to allow more flexibility in crafting and enchanting equipment, although the spell crafting system from previous Elder Scrolls games did not exist in Skyrim.

Fallout 4

Fallout 4 uses an updated version of the Creation Engine that supports better graphics and more functions. It is true that many of the functions of Skyrim removed or revised to include them in the fallout-Insert the game world and the SPECIAL system, but give others Fallout 4 many improvements over Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.

Features include, but are not limited to:

  • Increased texture resolution for more object details.
  • Volumetric lighting provides more realism in scenes with strong light contrast, e.g. B. when sunlight falls through a row of pillars and dust is illuminated in the air between the pillars while the dust behind the pillars remains dark.
  • Physically-based rendering shaders (PBR) give the game's graphics a much more realistic look and make it easier for objects created under certain lighting conditions to be displayed under others.
  • The new weapon and armor modification system allows much more creativity and variety in items made by players.
  • The settlement creation system allows the player to build an entire city with fully customized building layouts and features, power grids, water supplies and much more.
  • The character creation system has been converted to a point-and-click system rather than an old slider-based system. The aim is to make the creation of perfect faces much easier.
  • During conversations, the player character is shown with a new camera view that is closer to film recordings than that of previous games.
  • Conversations can be broken off at any time, and dialog selection has been simplified to a radial menu instead of scrolling through dialog options.
  • The VATS system has been updated so that time continues to slow down to make combat in VATS more attractive than previous systems where time was only paused while the player made his choice and more accurate than in free target mode .
  • Fallout Pip-Boy, an app for iOS, Android and Windows Mobile, enables wireless access to the in-game Pip-Boy via a smartphone.
