Wanted: the best salesman in the world

An advertising agency is looking for the best salesperson in the world. Candidates have to apply via video - and advertise a red brick.

Share this articleIn a worldwide competition, the international advertising agency Ogilvy One is looking for the "World's Greatest Salesperson". The particular challenge here: in a self-produced YouTube video, the participants have to demonstrate by May 16 that they could even sell a simple brick.

The best sellers are invited to the advertising festival in Cannes. The winner of the competition will win a three-month traineeship at Ogilvy One, where he will be involved in the production of the "21st Century Guide to Selling".

The competition has a serious background for the agency. Ogilvy One is building on the biography of agency founder David Ogilvy, who at the beginning of his professional life worked as a representative for the Swedish stove brand Aga.

Ogilvy was so successful at this that he was eventually hired to write the company's sales manual. Selling remained Ogilvy's top priority throughout his life and has been an integral part of today's agency philosophy ever since.

In view of the intensified debate about the effectiveness of advertising, Ogilvy One wants to build on this company tradition again and document that creative approaches and direct sales results do not have to contradict one another.

Procedure, modality, dates

All applicant films must be on the YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/ogilvyuploaded and must not exceed a length of two minutes. Eligible are those from the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Brazil, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, India, China, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Australia and Singapore.

After an audience vote on YouTube, a jury of experts then makes the final selection from among the candidates.
